Sept. 11, 2006
Happy Patriots' Day, Governor!
As long as you continue to hurl inaccurate meaningless insults at SB840 by calling it "socialized medicine", we will continue to correct you: doctors, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and all other PROVIDERS will remain free, private entities.
However it would be accurate to say that we mean to socialize health INSURANCE, as that is a function that is obviously beyond the ability of private enterprise to administer effectively. And this brings up a good question: what is wrong per se with a little socialism here and there? After all we have socialized fire departments and socialized police departments, and you never hear anybody wanting to change that.
How about just for today, September 11, we take a break from fetishizing the free market as a solution for everything, and breathe a prayer of thanks for our heroic and courageous socialized fire and police departments.
Or am I missing something?
Sincerely,
Vern Nelson, (714) 235-VERN
